Press Release dated 9 May, 2019

Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Americas USA Congratulates Abike Dabiri-Erewa as Pioneer Head of Diaspora Commission.

Washington DC, USA, May 9, 2019:  The Nigerians in Diaspora Americas USA (NIDOA USA) is elated and pleased with the confirmation of veteran Nigerian diaspora advocate and champion Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa as pioneer Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission on May 9, 2019.

Hon. Dabiri-Erewa who before this appointment was the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign affairs and Diaspora has for many years been championing the interest of diaspora Nigerians as well as non-diaspora Nigerians. Dabiri-Erewa has been spearheading the quest to see Nigerians in the diaspora get better security and fight for their rights.

She worked very hard in collaboration with NIDO for the establishment of this commission that she will now head. As a House of Reps member, she was chairman of House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, and sponsored the bill seeking the establishment of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission.  Dabiri-Erewa is also a strong supporter of diaspora voting.

Recently, she won a major victory in getting the authorities in Saudi Arabia to release Zainab Aliyu, a Nigerian wrongly accused of smuggling Tramadol into the country.

NIDOA USA is excited for Hon. Dabiri-Erewa, and looks forward to a continued partnership with her and the diaspora commission as we wish her a successful tenure.

Best wishes!

Respectfully,
